Together with the cherry detectives, track the cherries in Witzenhausen, one of the largest and oldest cherry growing regions in Germany.

Since the opening of the cherry experience path in 2008, a total of 17 adventure stations on the 1.8 km city route or the 2.7 km landscape route invite you to discover a treasure, to meet a “Great Princess” or even to climb to the top of a cherry tree.

The basic idea of the cherry experience path is to give to the guests of Witzenhausen an understanding of the diversity of sweet cherry varieties, and of the threatening loss of variety for the local population.
Therefore, old varieties were also planted alongside the path, with the purpose to promote the planting of these varieties in orchards and in house gardens, and thus contributing to their preservation. Moreover, visitors will get the opportunity to experience the cherry varieties with all their senses.

Furthermore, the path gives an insight into the cherry culture in Witzenhausen and the importance of this fruit for the city. At the same time, by planting new trees and appropriate care measures, it contributes to the preservation of varieties. The town of Witzenhausen is one of the sites of the “German Cherry Gene Bank”, and with this path it has acquired one more touristic attraction!
