“Nature and Technology” hike at the Edersee
Every Monday from Easter to October, Edersee Touristic offers the guided hiking tour “Nature and Technology”.
Under the lead of a nature park guide, the tour goes from Schloss Waldeck over the steep slopes of the Edersee up to Hemfurth to the famous dam. Part of the road follows the Quality Road Urwaldsteig-Edersee through the Nationalpark Kellerwald-Edersee which is certified according to the criteria of the German Hiking Association.
It's a bumpy trip, often on a rather narrow path alongside the slope, but you are rewarded by fantastic sceneries at the various resting places and by an entertaining conversation with the nature park guide who always has something educational to tell about almost anything that comes in the way. You hear much interesting information about plants and herbs, life in former times at the Edersee as well as the dam and its stirring history.
After you have finally arrived at this impressive construction, you can make a boat trip over the lake to Waldeck-West, from where you return towards your starting point Schloss Waldeck via cable car.
The tour starts every Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the parking space near Schloss Waldeck in front of the steps leading to the cable car, which is also the place of your arrival at about 4 p.m.
A contribution fee is €10 per person, which incudes the costs of the boat transfer and the cable way.
My personal highlights: the views over the lake, the dam and of course the cable car ride.
Tip: solid hiking footwear!
