Nationalpark Kellerwald-Edersee
Old birch tree forests are the perfect surrounding for hiking, cycle tours and much more! Here you can relax and leave your everyday life behind!
North of an area of unspoilt nature, right next to the Edersee, you will find 57 m² of a rare, beautiful, and natural landscape. Still very close to nature and untouched by either residential areas or roads, the “Ederhöhen” (Eder hills) with their striking interplay of mountains and canyons still form one of the largest beech forests (Fagus sylvatica) still remaining in Western Europe.
Let yourself be carried away by this beech forest and discover the fascination of a guided tour in the wilderness where nature remains untouched.
In the “Fagutop” information centre at the entrance to the wildlife park in Edertal-Hemfurth, visitors can experience the beech forest as a habitat. There are explanations on the meaning and interrelation among the different forms of living organisms present in this forest ecosystem which is so characteristic for Hesse.
The beech exhibition is updated regularly.
Part of the “Fagutop” also includes a forest enclosure (Waldschule) where groups of kindergarten and schoolchildren as well as teenagers can get close to nature in guided tours.
