Museum Barn „Scheune an der Aula“
Already from the outside, the historical barn “Scheune an der Aula” looks simply inviting.
Over bumpy cobblestones, then past the picket fence and the nostalgic milk bench you reach a comfy beer garden.
You enter the Kirchheimer Museum Barn through a large barn door. To the right, you will get to the nostalgia shop, in the middle there is an impressive tiled stove, and to the left you will find the authentic Café “Spinnstube”. Here, each chair is a unique copy and far from being new! The historical farmers’ equipment and exhibits are the result of the collecting passion of Bertl Schmidt, whose dream has been fulfilled by opening the Museum Barn. He shares his story with the visitors and they talk about the exhibits while having a good cup of coffee and home-made cake in the idyllic ambience. IIn the meantime, one can have a look at ten historic buildings, including a baking house and a pit latrine on the grounds of the Museum Barn which stands on the shore of the Aula brook. The regular events in the barn are a particular experience: old-timer meetings, apple and potato feasts, oldie evenings, and so on and on. The Museum Barn is open every Sunday from 2 p.m. onwards and of course during the events as well as by prior arrangement.
