Loop walk through the historic heart of Hümme
Did you know that is possible to discover the historic heart of Hümme along a loop walk?
Hümme, a picturesque half-timbered village in Northern Hesse, located at the foot of the Reinhardswald Forest, invites you to a historic discovery tour.
Having been refurbished with great love to detail over the last years, the village presents itself as a modern and well-equipped place to live with a living tradition. This tradition is not only maintained in form of an active village life, but also depicts itself in the preservation of historic building structures.
For the loop walk, the initiative Hümme “Unser Dorf” (“our village”) collected old photos and put them on weatherproof stainless steel boards, which were placed at the sites, where the photographer had once taken the respective photo.
The boards are numbered and make up a loop walk, which starts at the railway station. At each station, it is possible to compare the historic situation with the current one.
The brochure with the description of the walk has been published (in German) as volume 46 of the series “Geschichte unserer Heimat” (“history of our Heimat”) of the association for Hessian history and geography (Hofgeismar branch), and is on sale at the tourist information of Hofgeismar, at the Hofgeismar Town Museum, and in guesthouses at Hümme. The book contrasts old pictures with current photos – mostly together with the houses’ inhabitants. Furthermore, the book tells the stories of buildings and their inhabitants in a succinct and informative way. A map shows the locations of the information boards.
Further information can also be found on www.huemme.org.
The initiative Hümme “Unser Dorf” wish you great fun discovering Hümme and hopes that you will gain many historic insights.
