Kassel: Museum for Sepulchral Culture
Learn everything about the different facets of an important aspect of life: death, to die and how diverse it is treated in the cultures of the world!
Death and dying, mourning and remembrance, these are the main aspects sepulchral culture deals with. Established in 1992 the unique museum displays a broad range of historic and present-day testimonies of this culture: apart from shrouds, coffins, carriages, mourning wear and tombstones many figurative illustrations and last but not least examples for the contemporary artistic examination of death.
The museum possesses an extensive graphics collection, a special library open to the public as well as a photo-and music archive. Numerous exhibitions complete the permanent presentation.
