Kassel is not only one of the first art settings in Europe – the surface of green spaces of the attractive city at the Fulda river amounts to 60 percent. Here, surrounded by green areas, health and wellness take up the focus of attention with the Thermasole and Kneipp Medicinal Bath.
With documenta, the major world exhibition, rich in tradition, Kassel has advanced to the hub of the world of contemporary art. But Kassel not only is one of the first art settings in Europe - situated in the centre of Germany it is a genuine oasis for those wanting to relax.
Surrounded by green areas, between the woods of Habichtswald, Reinhardswald and Kaufunger Wald, health and wellness take up the focus of attention with the Thermasole Medicinal Bath Kassel – Bad Wilhelmshöhe. The Mountain Park Wilhelmshöhe is unique in the whole world. It stretches over a surface of 240 hectares and more than 400 different species of shrubs grow there. The Hercules, the Waterworks, the Löwenburg, the Greenhouse and the Ball House range among the outstanding sights and attractions.
A further jewel of Kassel is the State Park of Karlsaue. Lying in the centre of the city on the Fulda, it is approximately as big as the Principality of Monaco. The main alley leads the visitor from the Orangery to the large pond with the Swan Island with its magnificent temple. Behind it, the scenery is made perfect by the island Siebenbergen with its unique floral and woodland splendour, so that there is something to enjoy for each Karlsaue visitor.
Of course, Kassel is not only a city of art, but also a modern city which attracts customers from the whole region to its trendy shopping galleries. Moreover, Kassel also has many specialised shops with a rich tradition, which are a pleasure to rummage through.
In the evening, it is worthwhile to visit one of the many bistros, restaurants and pubs, or to go to the theatre or a variety show.
