Hofgeismar Town Museum
The oldest museum in the Kasseler Land is located in a historic building block in the Town of Hofgeismar.
In 14 exhibitions, the Town Museum deals with regional history, as well as other historic themes.
The museum is a ‘must’ for anybody who is interested in nature, history or culture.
Special exhibitions deal with prehistory and protohistory, the history of the garrison at Hofgeismar, as well as the history and culture of Jews and Huguenots.
Another section of the museum addresses the discovery and the use of the Gesundbrunnen spa.
A scientific exhibition vividly presents the native fauna and flora.
The 650 works of the painter Theodor Rocholl (1854 – 1933) from Düsseldorf are yet another feature of the exhibition. These works include water colour and oil paintings, as well as drawings.
This extensive exhibition is complemented by regular special exhibitions in the foyer of the sandstone building.
A detailed description (in German) may be downloaded from here .
The entry to the museum is free – donations welcome.
