Herkules-Wartburg bike trail
A bike journey over 215 kilometres from Eisenach to Kassel.
The Herkules-Wartburg bike trail is characterised by hills and castles, forest and water.
The nature experience on this route is linked with the flair of towns with half-timbered houses and a visit to Kassel, the city of the “documenta” art exhibition.
Route
Your bike trip starts at the foot of the Herkules monument, the landmark of the city of Kassel, and guides you through the well-wooded and hilly mountain ranges of Northern Hesse. Your destination is Eisenach in Thuringia with the world-famous Wartburg castle.
From Kassel, the bike trail initially leads to:
- Kaufungen
- Helsa
- Hessisch Lichtenau
Here, the trail splits up in two alternative routes. Take the main route via:
- Waldkappel
- Ifta
Or take the detour route directly along the Werra river via:
- Witzenhausen
- Bad Sooden-Allendorf
- Eschwege
- Wanfried
- Treffurt
- Mihla
In Creuzburg, both routes meet up again and jointly lead to Eisenach.
Along the trail, culinary delights in historic inns, cosy beer gardens, and picnic places at the Werra and Fulda River are waiting for you.
