Edersee and Edertalsperre
Visit the popular holiday region with its versatile leisure and recreation facilities!
Each year, due to its unique location amidst the impressive scenery, the Edersee hosts thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad. Being 27 km long, it is regarded the third-largest reservoir in Germany.
You have different options for experiencing the marvellous surroundings of the Edersee. Take, for instance, the Waldecker Bergbahn (mountain railway) from the lake upwards to visit the town of Waldeck and its castle. From Waldeck Castle, you have an impressive panorama over the lake, the dam and the Eder hills.
The Edersee is also a perfect destination if you like water sports. Here, you can sail and surf, take a dive, go water skiing or do whatever else you are up to. All over the lakeside, you have free access to coves where you can bathe, picnic or just relax. Due to the variable winds, the Edersee is suitable even for professional sailors.
Ashore, you can also try different cycle and hiking trails to make your trip complete.
However, if you prefer a trip on the water: two ferries take you on a boat trip round the Edersee.
