Canoeing tours on the Diemel River
The 110 km long Diemel River originates in a height of 700 m in the Sauerland Country near Willingen and flows into the Weser River.
The Diemel River is navigable on a length of 46 km from the City of Warburg (in the federal state of North Rhine – Westphalia) onwards all year round. In the baroque City of Bad Karlshafen, the river flows into the Weser River.
Canoe traffic on the Diemel River is regulated
A legal provision regulates the canoe traffic on the Diemel River. Therefore, private individuals are obliged to register on www.kanu-nordhessen.de (in German) before navigating the Diemel River. Canoe lenders are assigned limited quotas.
Interesting geology, rare flora and fauna
The entire course of the Diemel River is characterised by landscape formations which hardly exist anywhere else in our days. On the slopes of the Diemel River Valley, there are extensive calcereous grasslands and juniper heathlands, which bestow a Mediterranean flair upon parts of the river valley. This special vegetation stretches along both river banks, up the basalt cones, and comes along with a great number of orchards. On its entire length, the river is located in a landscape protection area.
