Bad Karlshafen: German Huguenot Museum
Experience the history of the town's foundation through French Calvinists!
In the middle of the Baroque town centre of Bad Karlshafen you can find the
German Huguenot Museum. It documents the town’s foundation through Calvinists who had fled persecution in France.
On three floors different exhibits from the Huguenots’ history in France and Germany are on display.
On the first floor the focus lies on the life of the Reformed Protestants in France – called Huguenots – and especially their suffering and persecution as minority in Catholic France. On the second floor attention is on the admission and integration of the French refugees in the German territories. The focus is here on the counties Brandenburg-Prussia, Hesse-Kassel and Franconia. An additional floor is used for special exhibitions.
For Huguenot descendants are immigration lists, church register copies as well as special literature and microfilms available for research.
